What is “Yahoo!” again?

Today, the infamous Rupert Murdoch announced that he was “definitely not going to make a bid” for Yahoo.com. Yeah, i wonder why… (a little website called Google). More surprisingly than this, though, is that Microsoft has offered Yahoo $44.6 Billion. And this proposal has got Google feeling a little uneasy:

“Google itself has said it finds Microsoft’s unsolicited approach for Yahoo “troubling”, and has called for it to be investigated by regulators. In a blog, Google said the tie-up could unfairly limit the ability of consumers to freely access competitors’ email and instant messaging services. It said Microsoft had previously sought “to establish proprietary monopolies”.

Whether Microsoft is being sketchy or not, it’s hard to determine who is really the “lesser of two evils”. But perhaps Murdoch made the right call. After all, it’s 2008 now, and Yahoo will almost certainly always be #2.

A horrible night to live in New England

Posted in Uncategorized on February 3, 2008 by coreymajor

This will be short. But it won’t be sweet. The New York Giants just won the Super Bowl. And i don’t think anyone really saw it coming. I did not see an 18-0 team playing out there tonight. The game, in general, was one of the most boring football games i have ever watched.  I actually fell asleep. I guess you could say i’m just being a sore loser, which is fine because i’ll admit i am and always have been, but i just don’t think that the Giants deserved this win tonight. The disappointment i am enduring is almost excruciating. I guess i’m just upset over the fact that i got drunk for nothing. God Damnit!

Victory! Adventures of Allen W. Drinkwater

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on January 28, 2008 by coreymajor

It was last year that i met Allen W. Drinkwater. It was an autumn afternoon in my college dorm. I was listening to “The Second Stage Turbine Blade” by Coheed & Cambria (a pivotal and nostalgic record of my adolescence) with my door open. Allen lived down the hall from me. As i was singing along to the lyrics, disregarding shame or the shear volume of my voice, Allen came running down the hall to sing along. After a beautiful recital of the “Hearshot Kid Disaster” he introduced himself. We became both friends and colleagues.

A year later this lovable little metal kid is touring the country promoting his new novella, “Victory!”

The Story

Victory! is the story of two middle-aged friends who decide to finally acknowledge the mutual dissatisfaction they are harboring for their respective existences. After becoming disillusioned, the duo resolves to drive across the country to exact revenge on those who have wronged them – an ex-girlfriend-turned-celebrity, and the creator of Star Wars, George Lucas. Along the way, the tag-team encounters evangelists, disgruntled parents, law enforcement, celebrities, and other opponents of free-thought. Victory!, although unconventional, challenges readers to take a closer look at the surrounding world, decide for themselves what it is that truly matters to them, and pursue the impossible.

Goth couple banned from bus

Posted in Uncategorized on January 24, 2008 by coreymajor

goths.jpg

Have you ever walked your dog? Sure you have. But have you ever walked your girlfriend? Well, if so then don’t expect to ride the bus in Great Britain.

Today a “black-clad” couple were denied access onto a bus in Bradford, England because the young woman was wearing a leash which the man was holding.  The bus company eventually apologized.  But that’s not even really what’s troubling me. What’s troubling me is the fact that the woman suggested to her boyfriend that he take her out on a leash. I don’t mean to be offensive in any way… but i have to ask…. what the fuck is wrong with these people?? Can anyone out there explain the reasoning behind this or anything other outrageous and bizarre Goth customs?

Life on Mars?

Today the BBC reported that NASA has found, after long and laborious searching through photo files of the Red Planet, a photo of the Martian surface where there seems to be a figure atop a rock formation. The figure bears a human form, and some even suspect it that it might be Bigfoot. Personally, as a Bigfoot enthusiast and future Bigfoot Hunter, this idea excites me to no end. However, i find it highly unlikely. Others dismiss the image as a trick of light, which is understandable. It also resembles, with somewhat similarity, Copenhagen’s “Mermaid” statue. I think this is a pretty cockamamie notion, seeing as how the image is far too indistinguishable to assert that assumption. But you be the judge…

Heath Ledger is dead.

Heath Ledger, 28, was found dead this afternoon in his Manhattan apartment.  Police are still investigating the matter, but it seems like he overdosed on sleeping pills, which were found near his body. I don’t even really know what to say about this. It’s certainly a tragedy to lose such a talented guy. It just seems so out of the blue. All i keep thinking about is how weird it is going to be to see him in the new Batman movie this summer and just realize that he is dead. Did playing The Joker actually drive him into madness? I don’t think so… but who knows…

R.I.P.

Till The Wheels Fall Off

This weekend I flew down to Florida with my roommate Pat to see Hot Water Music play a reunion show. Seeing them play in their home state was incredible. The set list was phenomenal. But the best part was being surrounded by the fans. I rarely saw anyone there without a HWM tattoo. It made me think about the whole notion of getting band tattoo’s. It really speaks volumes when you love a band so much that you get their logo or their lyrics tattooed on your body. I, too, have a band tattoo– Thrice’s “The Artist in the Ambulance” logo.

But I digress. Hot Water Music was fantastic. The trip was stressful but fun. You can see all the photos from our wacky adventure here.

Also, here is a shitty 15 second video from the show taken with my cell phone.

Additionally, you should check out Chuck Ragan from HWM’s solo stuff. It’s great.

MacBook Air not actually world’s thinnest laptop

Posted in Uncategorized on January 16, 2008 by coreymajor

Well, the big technology news these days is Apple’s new MacBook Air. At 0.76 inches thick the laptop is so thin it can actually fit into an envelope. It lacks in stats, does not have a cd drive, and has only one USB port. It does have a nice screen at least.

Everyone has great things to say about Apple’s newest toy, but Christopher Null, a blogger for Yahoo!Tech seems to be the only one mentioning that 5 years ago Sony released the Vaio X505 laptop, which is actually technically still the world’s smallest and thinnest laptop computer (0.75 inches thick).

Aussi teen totally boned

house-party.jpg

Melbourne, Australia–officers responding to a textbook noise complaint were surprisingly confronted by over 500 drunk teenagers who were raging at a house party.

Corey Delaney, 16, was throwing a party while his parents were away. The party-goers caused a total of $20,000 in damage.

Two things:

1) apparently this is how they party in Australia; 500 deep vandalizing the city and attacking police officers.

2) i do not want to be that kid when his parents get home.

BRITISH COUPLE’S TRAUMATIC DILEMMA BRINGS NEW MEANING TO THE PHRASE “IT WAS LIKE KISSING MY SISTER.”

twins.jpg

Two twins, a brother and a sister, separated at birth, were married without knowing that they even had a twin.

It is disturbing, undoubtedly, but perhaps even a little heartbreaking.  An article on TheSun.Co.Uk reported that the twins would have felt like soul mates when they met. The couple even admitted that they felt very strong chemistry since they were so alike. To discover that someone you are in love with is actually your sibling has to be one of the cruelest jokes ever.

But the “elephant in the room”, so to speak, is most certainly the fact that this couple had sexual intercourse. Probably a lot of it. What if the woman had gotten pregnant? Truly that is the most frightening thought of all. Let’s hope that is not the case.

If you were to ask me, i think that if someone is a twin, you should tell them as soon as they can comprehend sentences. Considering these individuals were adopted by different families, surely they, at some point in their lives, should have been made aware that they were adopted. Right? At that point their twin sibling should also have been a topic of discussion.

At any rate, maybe we should all go get some blood tests done. Do you feel like your spouse is your soul mate? Let’s try to not let this happen anymore. Just think about it…
