Today, the infamous Rupert Murdoch announced that he was “definitely not going to make a bid” for Yahoo.com. Yeah, i wonder why… (a little website called Google). More surprisingly than this, though, is that Microsoft has offered Yahoo $44.6 Billion. And this proposal has got Google feeling a little uneasy:
“Google itself has said it finds Microsoft’s unsolicited approach for Yahoo “troubling”, and has called for it to be investigated by regulators. In a blog, Google said the tie-up could unfairly limit the ability of consumers to freely access competitors’ email and instant messaging services. It said Microsoft had previously sought “to establish proprietary monopolies”. “
Whether Microsoft is being sketchy or not, it’s hard to determine who is really the “lesser of two evils”. But perhaps Murdoch made the right call. After all, it’s 2008 now, and Yahoo will almost certainly always be #2.
